Bout of Books 13: Day 4

Daily Challenge: From Modern to Classic

Here's the thing with classics: most of the classics that I've read were books I was forced to read for school. Most of those classics and I were not friends. I love reading and I do not read well when forced.

A book that I would love to see become a classic is The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. Because its a book that I would like to see read in high schools, instead of the the hideously depressing stuff that they made us read. (If you've seen the meta people write on this book... you can see how it would be a fun read in the school system.)

  1. Such an interesting pick! I think I might have to include this in my ever growing TBR (this challenge has not been kind to it) and then possibly teach it in the classroom. I found it hard to read classics when I was forced to for school, but when I got a bit older I revisited them and really appreciated them. I think that it is important that books that appeal to a broad range of people are included in the literary canon, and this book seems to fit that bill. Enjoy the rest of your boutofbooks, and thanks for sharing your pick!

    1. I've had classics that I've loved, I just never found that I liked the ones that I assigned (maybe that will change, who knows?) I like the idea of this one being used. I personally think it would be great... though I'm not an English teaching professional.
